    Default Farm Update!

What a crazy day! I suppose I shall update you on why it is so crazy.

Firstly, I am super sad because my chain broke. My finger slipped and I ended up stepping into a budew. I don't mind it when chains break after a shiny encounter, but when it breaks because of my error it is always a bummer. The one silver lining is that I managed to catch 33 shiny pokemon from that chain. ^_^ I am very happy with that number! It ranks as the second-highest chain that I have ever have. It surpassed Igglybuff and magnemite but failed to surpass bidoof as my number 1 chain. Interesting, it was one of the most unusual chains that I have ever had. During one reset, I saw two shiny patches appear at once. I could only encounter one, of course, so it is always a strange event. It has only happened once before in all of my experience chaining, and at the time I thought it would never happen again. Then there is the time that I encountered a shiny patch, and immediately afterwards another shiny patch popped up. I believe that it is the first time that it has happened directly after an encounter. I know that during one of my Igglybuff chains, I saw one in the manual reset after encountering a shiny patch, but I don't believe that it was the one that happens automatically after the encounter. Either way, it is a rare happening. You see, once a chain gets up to 40 there is a 1 in 200 chance of encountering a shiny patch. That means that the odds of seeing two in consecutive resets is about 1 in 40,000. ^_^ So... Like I said, it was an unusual chain.

I managed to make time to IV check the brood of shiny pokemon, and while writing down their natures I noticed that the date of capture was wrong. It turns out that my DS said May 8th instead of April 28th! I can only think of one time that I ever advanced the clock on my DS. The first was before I bought any Pokemon games. I had this hamster game that worked in real time, so after finishing one day's work I would advance the clock so that I could still play. So... that means that for over 4 years I have been playing a game that had the wrong date on the clock. XD I feel very oblivious right now. lol This is such a strifey moment.

Anyways, after IV checking the pokemon, only one really stood out for EV training. Here are his stats:

    Brian - Adamant - 17, 27, 31, 1, 28, 28

He is just about perfect in my eyes. He has solid stats compared to most shiny pokemon, and I don't mind that he doesn't have much of a Sp. Attack stat because I would use him in an attacking role. Even the nature is favorable! ^_^ I am super-excited to EV train him and add him to my shiny team team. As for the others.... I believe I will use them in the farm game and perhaps for a future event. It just depends on various factors. Due to those facts, I am still going to keep the identity of the pokemon I chained a secret.

Speaking of events.... Since my game is now freed up, I am going to get the next event for Strife Farms posted on Monday. I would post it this weekend, but I've caught some sort of virus and feel miserable. I don't think that I'll have any time to be online and do trades. I don't think that it would be fair to release an event and not be there to tend the thread and do some trades, so I think posting it on Monday would be best for everybody. I have no doubt that it will be a cute event that will put Strife Farms back on the map. ^_^

On to the future! I have started to chain for the Avengers Initiative in my Japanese Diamond game. I decided to do it there because I don't want another chain to put an event on hold. It does make it a bit harder because of the language barrier and the fact that I can only name any captured pokemon with up to 5 characters. That is the hardest part, I think. I know that it is a silly thing to dislike, but it can be frustrating when you think of a really cool name but can't give it to the pokemon because it is more than 5 letters long. lol At first I was having zero luck with the new chains. I started by trying to chain Machop. . I did have one chain that made it all the way to 38 before it broke, and that was disheartening. All the others didn't make it above 20, so I decided to try something new. Murkrow made as much sense as anything, so I went to Eterna forest and spent an hour trying to start a chain before I realized that Murkrow only shows up at night. After waiting for 20:00 to roll around, I went back and finally managed to start a chain. lol I didn't have much luck at first, but I currently have a pretty good one going. I made it all the way to 30, so with a bit of luck I can get it the rest of the way to 40 and start resetting for shinies.

Still looking for input on the Avengers Initiative. ^_^ I think that I will end up going through the national dex on Bulbapedia or one of my games and seeing if anybody sticks out to me. :// I'm still not sure about a few of them...

    Captain America - Shiny Gallade
    Thor - Electivire
    Iron Man - Scizor

Black Widow - Gengar? Mismagius? Banette?
    Hawkeye - Shiny Honchkrow
The Incredible Hulk - Shiny Machamp

    Nick Fury - Salamence?

I hope that everybody has a lovely remainder of their weekend!

Horray! The Shiny Igglybuff Event has debuted!

I hope that everybody likes this event. I used pokemon that have been hanging out on My Ranch for ages. I remember that I was very determined to find a great Igglybuff for my shiny team, so I ended up chaining them 4 or 5 times total. The first time, I managed to get up to a really high number of Igglies (over 30, I believe) and then the battery on my DS died. I was crushed, but still determined. My other chains never managed to get that high, but I did manage to have enough extras to do this event. They are super-cute, but like most shiny pokemon their IV's are not the greatest. I did have some decent sych natures with me when I did chain them, so most of them have workable natures. They would be a great addition to a shiny team or a shiny collection.

As for The Avengers Initiative.... Today it has had some ups and some downs.

On the up side, I managed to get my Murkrow chain up to 40.

On the down side, I forgot to bring a synchronizing pokemon with me, so the natures will be 100% random.

On the up side, I managed to catch 3 shiny Murkrow last night.

On the down side, I forgot to bring a false-swiper with me and Murkrow only has a catch rate of 30. That means about a 4% chance of catching it at full HP with a normal PokeBall. Luckily, I had a Magikarp that knew flail with me, so I can get their HP down to help improve the catch rate. However, I am always terrified that I will get a critical hit that will KO the shiny pokemon. I used a catch rate calculator, and if I get the HP down to about 1/3 and use a Dusk Ball at night, I get a catch rate of about 40%. Unfortunately, I keep having to use about 4-5 Dusk Balls on them before they allow themselves to be caught. Luckily I have 200 of them and about 200 ultra balls if they run out, but it is still disheartening. ://

Overall, I can honestly say that I did not plan well for this chaining expedition. :// Oh well, that's just how lives goes sometimes. I don't want to end it because part of me likes the additional challenge. Plus, the shiny Murkrow look awesome. I love that purple color!

Hmmm.... Yep, I don't have anything else going on right now. I am not sure what the next event will be, but that is something that I will ponder another day. Right now, I will focus on the the Shiny Igglybuff Event and my Murkrow chain. ^_^

    Ciao!

    Default Important Farm Update!

    Hello everybody!

I just wanted to give you a heads up that due to some family circumstances, I won't be around very much this week. I will try to pop in to do upkeep on the Igglybuff thread and maybe even to do the Strife Farm game starting on Wednesday, but I won't have time for much more than that. I just wanted to give everybody a heads up! I appreciate your patience when it comes to trades.

    Default Farm Update!

I am so sorry that I've been away for so long! I didn't mean to, but with everything going on in my life something had to give. There was a death in the family that was hard on everybody, but things have settled down somewhat and I'm going to get back in the swing of things. As such, I'm trying to catch up on everything here at PokeFarm!

Firstly, I am sad to announce that my Murkrow chain broke. It was a doomed expedition from the start, but I managed to encounter 19 shinies. Out of those 19, I was lucky enough to catch 17 of them. I lost two with critical hit attacks (I forgot to bring a false swiping pokemon with me - and no, I have no idea what I was thinking when I started the chain...). The chain broke when I forgot to use a repel and started walking. I haven't IV checked them yet, but I am hopeful that I will have something nice. You see, I forgot to bring a sycnronizing pokemon with me, so their natures will all be random. I put off IV checking them because the chain is on my Japanese game, and IV checking things on that game is harder because I have to translate the natures manually... And it isn't as easy as it sounds because a lot of the Japanese characters look similar to my eyes. Anyways, I feasably have enough to use in the Strife Farms game and perhaps even for an Avengers event. Overall, it could have been worse. lol

In other news... I updated The Strife Diaries thread with the next week's worth of entries. It's been fun editing them and reposting them. I think that the earlier entries will be more consistant with the later ones this time around. I think that there was a pretty drastic tone shift in the original. Then again, it might have just been my perception of it all. lol Wouldn't surprise me either way. I plan on updating them once per week with about a week's worth of entries. Depending on a variety of things, that may change. I'm trying to schedule things so that I do an update on one thing or another on a specific day. You know, update the game on Monday, the fanfiction on Wednesday, and post an event on alternating Fridays. I don't know, though... I can be so indecisive. >_<

I have also updated the Strife Farms game! Horray! Now you get to guess which pokemon I have stumbled upon this week. I think that you will be very pleased with the one it turns out to be. It is one of the more unique pokemon and one that was not easy to chain. I will admit that I chained it for selfish reasons, but that is another story all together. I'll talk about it once somebody wins the game and the mysterious pokemon is revealed.

Well, I think that the Shiny Igglybuff event has been goign pretty well. I'm surprised that I haven't had more requests, but with the forums being so quiet it isn't entirely unexpected that it has been kinda slow. I am currently trying to decide what to do for my next event. I could go with something for the Avengers initiative, but that would committ me to 6 concurrent events. I'm just not sure if I'd be able to keep up with that type of pace... I currently have enough for 2 of them right now. I am going to try to go for the third. I decided that instead of using the small number of shiny Machop I already have in my boxes that I will try to chain some Machoke. That way they will evolve into Machamp when I trade them with people during the event! I think that would be pretty neat. ^_^ So... If I remember correctly, there is an area you can chain them in the survival area? Or just to the left of that area.... I want to say that I tried chaining something there before but always wound up running into them instead.... I will have to research it more before I go up there. I will also make sure to bring a false-swiper and an Adamant synchronizing Abra with me. Then I will have a pretty good chance at catching something people will want to train and use on their teams. ^_^

You know, on that note, I am considering making Strife Farms a shiny specialist farm. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, it means that I won't have to worry about IV's because chained pokemon all have random IV's. I've been trying to breed some pokemon for a proper IV bred event, but I am having terrible luck with it. Both in my Diamond and Soul Silver game, I only ever seem to pass on 2 of the IV's I want. The game doesn't seem to be giving me much luck beyond that. Secondly, I love to chain! I love to challenge myself to have longer chains and to get shiny pokemon for myself and my friends. I already have a lot hanging around my boxes, so it could be a good outlet them. Does anybody have an opinion?

One final thought. I hate to say it, but I won't be around this weekend! I am going camping from Friday until Sunday, so I won't be around to do trades, get into battles, and randomly chat with people. I am going up to the Nebraska/South Dakota border. We are going to go fishing, hiking, and ATVing. I suspect that a fun time will be had by all. Well, all except my cat. He is already acting weird because he knows that something is up... I just hope that he'll be nice to the neighbor who pops in to check on him and the hedgehog on Saturday...

So... I think that is everything! ^_^ Keep it real!

    Default Farm Update!

I have been trying to spend more time in Dream World with my G5 cartridge, but I find it so tedious. Also, I never managed to catch female pokemon. Everything that I have ever encountered and had the chance to choose from the tree are male! Is there some point when I will unlock the other gender or am I just unlucky? I suspect the latter. ://

Tried to chain Ralts, but no luck so far. I actually did planning before this mission! I EV trained a False-swiping Gallade and brought along 4 different Sychronizing abra to the party. I managed to get 3 different chains above 20, but I kept running into Krikitots and Budew before I could reach 30. However, in one chain I encountered a pre-40 shiny patch and managed to pick up a shiny Ralts from my efforts. I'm pretty happy that I have at least one. It was a girl, so I named her Luck. I wanted to name her 'Surprise' or something else, but I only have 5 characters to work with in my Japanese game. We'll see if I can have more luck next week. I don't know if I'll have any time to try to chain because I have homework and a camping trip to worry about from now until Monday. I considered taking my DS with me (I do have a car charger for it), but then I thought that the point of camping is to get away from technology. The only gadget I plan on taking is my GPS so that it can guide us up north. I'm sure that we'll have an easier time this year because there isn't flooding. Last year we had to visit South Dakota for a family reunion and many roads were closed due to flooding. It was unbelievable what the Missouri River can do when it doesn't want to stay in its bank...

Wow, not sure where that tanget came from. So... Umm... Okay, let's talk about something fun! Winner of the forum game! Horray to LordLogan2; I hope you enjoy having a Ninja on your team. Nincada are a fun pokemon because they evolve into Ninjask and Shedinja at the same time (so long as you have an empty spot in your party and an extra pokeball). I started to chain them so that I could see if a shiny Nincada will make both a shiny Shedinja and a shiny Ninjask. The answer is Yes! ^_^ I got lucky and have one that is worth training and the nature will work for both evolutions. I'm pretty psyched that my shiny team will be two stronger. When I chained them, I managed to catch over 30. I think that I will do an event with them in the future as well as using them as part of the farm game. We'll see what happens. ^_^

Speaking of shiny pokemon... I moved some of the Murkrow to my Diamond game, so with some luck I'll have some of them IV checked by next week. Then we can see if I had any luck with natures and IV's. Knowing how my luck generally goes, they will have great IV's and terrible natures. That's just how I roll.

Although they my not be perfect, I am super excited that I have two pokemon down for the Avengers Initiative. Next I'm going to focus on chaining Machop and Ralts. I decided to chain Ralts because Kirlia is pretty hard to come by. In the few areas it frequents, it has a 1% encounter rate. Compare that to 22% encounter rate for Ralts and you can see why I chose the pre-evolution for this project. As for Machop, I thought it would be cool for them to evolve into The Hulk upon trading them. ^_^ So... This is what we have thus far for The Avengers Initiative

    Captain America - Shiny Gallade
    Thor - Electivire
    Iron Man - Scizor
    Black Widow - Ariados
    Hawkeye - Shiny Honchkrow
The Incredible Hulk - Shiny Machamp

Umm de dum dum.... I think that is everything. I hope that everybody has a great weekend! I'll see you all next week. ^_^

    Default Farm Update!

    I'm back!

Camping was fun. I didn't have any luck fishing and I sprained my ankle, but I had a good time overall. My cat has recovered from being left alone for 24 hours, so I now have time to mess around online. lol

Trading is back in full swing, so just message me or reply to a thread if you need to arrange a time to pick something up. ^_^

Beyond that... There isn't much to say. When I was recovering from the drive home, I tried to chain Machoke, but I had zero luck. I currently have a chain of 18 and I'm hopeful that it will make it up to 40, but only time will tell. It isn't the most interesting chain because fighting type is not my favorite type of pokemon. They're just too confrontational. >.>

You know, shiny sneasel and shiny Kadabra both look like they're ready to go to the disco! lol I've tried to chain Sneasel before, but I haven't had much luck. I'll have to try again sometime. I'm not having any luck with Machoke. :// I had one chain that was nearly 30, but it broke. Nothing else has gotten above 20.

    Default Farm Update!

Great news! I am chaining Meditite and I'm up to 14! I started the chain because I was tired of chaining Machoke, and it made it all the way to 40. I've been chaining it diligently ever since, and I'm up to 14 of the cuties! The normal form of Meditite is blue and the shiny version is red. When it evolves, the opposite is true. A normal Medicham is red and the shiny version is blue. They're one of the more interesting shinies. ^_^ I am very happy that I started chaining them.

Beyond that.... Umm..... Not much has been happening at the farm. I'm trying to decide what I want to do for my next event. I am also planning on chaining ditto once the Meditite chain breaks. I finally migrated some synchronizing pokemon to my Japanese diamond game, so I will have better control over the natures that I receive. Hopefully I can add some Timid ditto to the thread. ^_^

I have also been making an effort to EV train some of the pokemon in my boxes. I've even taken the time to go through the battle tower to get the EV training items, so hopefully it will go faster than normal. With the PKRS virus, I should be able to get between 10 and 12 EV's per encounter instead of 4 or 8. Before you know it, I'll have my boxes full of battle-ready warriors! Muwahahaha!

I plan on updating the game thread by the weekend, so keep an eye out for it! Right now, I am off to make pancakes. I suddenly have a craving for yumminess. lol

    Default Farm Update!

what a week! It flew by faster than a Pidgeot.

Seamless as that it, I will start off by saying that I updated the game thread and Sorgatani won! Shoe, my beloved shiny Pidgey, is the first off-colored Pokemon I ever captured. It was in the early days when I considered 10 to be a high chain. I've refined my technique since then and have captured many more, but Shoe will always hold a special place in my heart. Tani, I hope that you enjoy your prize.
I am currently up to 17 or 18 in my Meditite chain. I'm not motivated enough to go across the room to get my charging DS to see exactly how many... But I'm pretty happy with the chain thus far. I just need to remember to change my synchronizing pokemon. I've been using Jolly but I want to switch to Adamant since that is another good nature for this pokemon. With some luck, I'll have one or two worth training. At the very least, I'll have a few more additions for my living pokedex.

I have also taken some time to update the Past, Present, and Future thread. I have put some serious thought into it, and I want to focus on chaining shiny pokemon. The addition of a Japanese game makes it easier for me to spend more time chainin. I am also considering finishing my regional dex in Pearl or Platinum so that I can unlock the radar and have more chaining options. I'm not sure if I'll have time to do that, but it an option on the table.

That being said, I am thinking of the best pokemon to chain for a shiny team. Skarmory is one that I would like to pursue (mainly for HM reasons, but it can be useful on the right team). Gastly and budew are two others that I think would be worthwhile. Sneasel and kadabra would also be good additions because they both look crazy as shiny pokemon. lol Bronzong is another posibility... In any case, if anybody has a suggestions then please speak up! I've never been the king of team building, so opinions are welcome. ^_^

Oh! Something new happened when I was in the Dream World. I finally managed to catch a female pokemon! It is a Spoink with whatever the DW Spoink ability is. I was pretty psyched because she is the first lady I've encountered. I was wondering around the haunted house and I believe that I won her friendship with the candle game. I'm not very good at that game, but I did manage to get enough points to make her happy. Hopefully she is the first of many.

Well..... I think that is just about everything. I hope that everybody has a lovely weekend.
