Nintendo 3DS Announced!

Nintendo recently annoced in a Japnese press release the name of the next DS.... The 3DS!

Before you get exited. No 3 Screens

. But 3D... without glasses! It will be able to simulate the 3D look! And Nintendo states it will be out before March 2011

I so can't wait! Since we have the new Pokémon games coming out this year. Let's pray they are on the 3DS! 3D Pokémon FTW! This is the best jump for Nintendo yet! Sony should be in awe! Just imagine better 3D Pokémon images instead of just sprites :P And since we already know the Pokémon company is working heavilty with the 3DS dev kit. We can't wait!

Oh also, it notes the new 3DS will use new cartridges but will have compatibility mode to work with your DS and DSi games

(So now losing support for HG/SS

Another thing, the 3DS will have an accelerometer

Off-topic: I hate 3D glasses, they push into my normal glasses and hurt my nose. :C

Im not sure, It's going to be a right strain on the eyes, it is now, but with 3D, ooh painful.

May i ask what an accelerometer is?

A device that detects movement. As seen in many touch phones like the iPhone. When you turn the device. The screen auto-rotates. It is also in the wii. That is mainly what picks up the movement..

I think that the 3DS will cut down on the HOURS some people spend playing games. It'll strain your eyes A LOT.

I'm not to exited for this... accelerometer just adds that much more to deal with. Meh.

Im still undecided on 3D, at all levels.

I mean, I went to see Avatar at the IMAX and thought it looked brilliant, but there was so much going on and it did make me feel a bit motion sick.

For anything less then cinema though, I dont see it being all that great

my biggest worry is that developers will stop trying to bring new things to games, rather just concentrate on making them 3D.
And I would prefer an amazing 2D game to a sub-standard 3D game

I have to agree. While better graphics can make a game more enjoyable, I'm still not sure that 3d = better graphics.

The jump from the Gameboy to the Gameboy Advance allowed a lot more complex games
The 2nd screen on the DS, the motion control on the Wii, both were pretty radical but both ended up allowing a lot of new gameplay options.

I'm not sure how 3D does anything but make the the 3DS harder to pull out at the busstop while you are waiting. (The big screen DS they are about to release gets a pass from me because of price and the fact that it won't fit in my pockets anymore.)

Ive never seen anything in 3D.
To those who have, do both eyes need to be working for you to see the 3D stuff?

I remember those comics you used to get with the red and blue glasses... I could never get the full affect because i could only see one colour.
