Pokérus had a 3 in 65,536 chance to be on a wild Pokémon. Through battling or capturing this wild Pokémon, your Pokémon could get Pokerus too. If you keep your Pokemon in your PC and it has Pokerus, it will keep the status indefinitely.

Little Fact: Pokerus is about 1/3 of the chance to encounter a shiny Pokémon.

A Pokemon having Pokerus is a combination of luck and randomness. You'll never know if a Pokemon has it or not. You pass on Pokerus by running around in the grass, engaging in battles, etc.

It basically is random at first, but after you obtain one pokemon with pokerus, you can infect other pokemon by having them next to the infected one in your party (and battling/running around). Also, you can see if they have it simply by checking to see if it has PKRS (with a pink background behind it) in their status area.

Actually, you can tell pretty easily when your Pokemon have PKRS. You can get it from a wild encounter, but from being involved in this community, it isn't hard to get it here. Either way, the first time you get it on your game, if you heal the Pokemon at a Pokemon Center, Nurse Joy comments on the virus to you. In the summary screen, it will (at first) show up as a purple rectangle with "PKRS" inside of it just under the Pokemon's name. Once it has expired, it shows up as a yellow smiley face to the right of the Pokemon's sprite, also in the summary screen.

from what i've read theres like a one in a bajillion chance or so of running into one in the wild with it. You can either kill it or catch it i believe, though catching it is probably prefered, and then you let it sit in your active party and it infects your other team memers. The couner is 3 days until the virus becomes unpassable from the poke that first had it, but thats not including box time so stick it in a box and it can last forever 0_o but yeah, once a poke has got the virus the effects are permanent, meaning it will gain double EV's.... forever!!! 0_O

I have plenty of infected Pokemon. As has been pointed out, once you have it on one of your Pokemon, it isn't hard to spread it far and wide.

On the topic of Pokerus, the first time I got it was after my first battle with Giratina! I was so freaked out because I didn't know what in the world it was. But then everything turned out fine. Duh. I thought it was just ironic that I got it from a legendary.
