Metagross is the new Azelf: It functions as a suicide lead. Rather than use speed to get SR up, this guy uses bulk. With the great amounts of resistances from the steel typing, and with the great defences, it’s easy to get a couple of hits off. I generally find that exploding on something which is quite strong and difficult to stop is what does a good job. Getting rid of pokes like Gyra and Mence will be a strong reward for losing Metagross.

Everything in the OU metagame is outsped bar Ninjask and scarfers. That can make for a very strong late game sweeper if played correctly, after that it’s just a matter of trying to KO the opposition. Simply attempt to bring Metagross in on something which doesn’t like it, agility on the switch, and KO the poke which comes in if possible. EQ and Meteor Mash are there for general use and coverage, while ice punch is used to get any dragons/flying types.

This set isn’t strictly for the best, most powerful moves you can get, it’s to try and surprise the foe and get a kill that way. It is like ChainChomp or Tyraniboah. Using this set, you should be able to KO most threats which would normally switch in, which should allow another one of your pokes to sweep after this one if required.

Metagross boasts being able to use Reflect and Light Screen, and bringing it together on this set gives your team a massive boost. It could also be used as a lead as well, although in this case, I recommend you replace either EQ or Meteor mash with Explosion.
